Ferroptosis in Cancer: A Meta-Analysis Reveals Improved Prognosis with Promoted Cell Death

Cancer, a leading cause of death, often involves treatments with significant side effects. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death distinct from apoptosis, has potential prognostic value in cancer. This meta-analysis of eight retrospective studies examined the impact of ferroptosis on cancer prognosis, revealing that promoting ferroptosis significantly improves overall survival (HR 0.31) and progression-free survival (HR 0.26). These findings suggest that harnessing ferroptosis could be a promising therapeutic strategy to enhance cancer treatment outcomes and overcome drug resistance.
