Filaggrin gene polymorphisms in Indian children with atopic dermatitis

This cross-sectional, multicenter study on 75 Indian children investigated filaggrin (FLG) gene polymorphisms, which are crucial for skin barrier function and linked to atopic dermatitis. FLG null variants were found in 34.7%, including 80% of novel variants. Statistically significant associations were observed between FLG variants and early onset of atopic dermatitis (P = 0.016) and elevated serum IgE levels (P = 0.051). Although limited by sample size, the study identified unique FLG variants in the Indian population, offering insights into genotype-phenotype correlations in atopic dermatitis.
