FINGER Trial Shows Lasting Lifestyle Benefits After 10 Years

The 10-year follow-up of the FINGER randomized trial evaluated long-term lifestyle changes in older adults at risk for cognitive decline. The multidomain intervention group sustained improvements in physical activity and healthy food choices, particularly fish and vegetable intake. However, gains in cognitive/social activities and self-rated health faded post-intervention. Interestingly, physical and cognitive activity rose during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting external events can reignite healthy behaviors.
