Flow-Through Flaps for Head and Neck Reconstruction

Flow-Through Flaps for Head and Neck Reconstruction

Flow-through flaps (FTFs) provide a reliable solution for reconstructing extensive head and neck defects when recipient vessels are scarce. A multi-institutional study comparing FTFs and vein grafts (VGs) showed no flap failure in the FTF group versus a 7% failure rate in the VG group. The postoperative complication rate was also lower in the FTF group (28% vs. 46%). FTFs offer a promising alternative for complex reconstructions.
