FN BMD T-Score Predicts Fracture Risk Equally in Diabetes and Non-Diabetes Patients

A study assessed the relationship between femoral neck (FN) bone mineral density (BMD) T-scores and fracture risk among 42,198 individuals, including 2,362 with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The study found that FN BMD T-scores were significantly associated with the risk of any, hip, and major osteoporotic fractures in both men and women, regardless of T2D status. Specifically, adjusted hazard ratios for hip fractures indicated similar predictive abilities for both T2D and non-T2D groups. Fracture incidence rates and estimated 10-year fracture risks were comparable between individuals with and without T2D. The FN BMD T-score was equally effective in predicting fracture risk across both groups.
