Food-induced brain activity in adult obesity: a quantitative electroencephalographic study

This cross-sectional study at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, aimed to investigate the brain regulation of feeding behavior to food cues in adults with obesity. Electroencephalography (EEG) analysis revealed significant increases in beta waves in the frontal region and gamma waves in the central and parietal regions during exposure to high-calorie food cues. These findings suggest heightened food-cue awareness and increased attentional focus toward food stimuli. Moreover, decreased alpha and theta activities in frontal regions may indicate deficits in executive functions and higher motivation.
