Gastric and duodenal cancer in individuals with Lynch syndrome

A study revealed individuals with MLH1, MSH2, and EpCAM pathogenic variants in Lynch syndrome face heightened gastric (GC) and duodenal cancer (DC) risks, particularly after age 70. Of 1002 high-risk and 765 low-risk PV carriers, 29 GCs (1.6%) and 39 DCs (2.2%) were diagnosed. Notably, 62% of GCs and 77% of DCs underwent primary tumour resection, with early-stage tumours detected in significant proportions, prompting future surveillance efficacy and cost-effectiveness studies.
