The study compared oral glycyrrhizin (OCG) and oral prednisone (OP), followed by phototherapy, in 50 children with progressive vitiligo. By Week 24, disease progression halted in 80% (OCG) and 84% (OP) of patients. Serum HMGB1 levels significantly declined in both groups, and Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (VASI) scores improved similarly by Week 52. Findings suggest OCG is as effective as OP for controlling vitiligo progression and promoting repigmentation.
