Greater Reliance on Glycolysis is Associated with Lower Mitochondrial Substrate Oxidation and Insulin Sensitivity in Infant Myogenic MSCs

A recent study explored infant skeletal muscle tissue from full-term infants. The research showed that infants with higher levels of non-oxidized glycolytic products like lactate, along with lower substrate oxidation and insulin sensitivity, may have an increased risk of metabolic disease later in life. These findings suggest that lactate levels at birth could serve as a clinical blood marker for predicting predisposition to metabolic disease.
