In a study of the Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) trial, associations of growth hormone mediators with glycemic failure in youth-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) were investigated. Results indicated that increased levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) were linked to lower odds of glycemic failure, while higher levels of growth hormone receptor (GHR) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1 (IGFBP-1) were associated with an increased risk of glycemic failure. These findings provide insight into potential factors influencing the aggressive phenotype of youth-onset T2D.
