Hair Steroid Levels Show Limited Predictive Value in PTSD Treatment Outcomes

A secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial examined steroid hormones in hair as biomarkers for PTSD symptomatology and treatment response in 54 female inpatients. While lower pre-treatment DHEA levels correlated with anxiety, steroid levels did not predict PTSD outcomes post-treatment or at follow-up. Findings highlight challenges in identifying biomarkers for PTSD in clinical settings.
