ONCOLOGY

A study evaluated the effectiveness of lutetium-177 (Lu-PSMA-617), a targeted radioligand therapy, in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. The trial included 581 patients who were randomly assigned to receive Lu-PSMA-617 along with standard care or standard care alone. The study found that Lu-PSMA-617 improved radiographic progression-free survival and overall survival. Additionally, it delayed the time to first symptomatic skeletal event and showed improvements in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and pain compared to standard care alone. However, the treatment was associated with some adverse events, including hematological abnormalities. These findings support the use of Lu-PSMA-617 in patients who have previously received androgen receptor pathway inhibitors and taxane treatment.
