Hepatic and Pancreatic Fat Linked in Healthy, Younger Adults

The study explored the conditions under which hepatic fat correlates with intrapancreatic fat deposition (IPFD) using MRI and spectroscopy data from 367 participants. Moderation analyses revealed that age, HbA1c, LDL-C, HDL-C, and triglyceride levels significantly moderated the association between hepatic fat and IPFD (p < 0.05). The association was strongest in individuals younger than 61, with HbA1c < 45 mmol/mol, LDL-C < 157 mg/dL, HDL-C > 36 mg/dL, and triglycerides < 203 mg/dL. The results suggest that hepatic and pancreatic fat deposits are linked primarily in younger, cardiometabolically healthy individuals, while this relationship diminishes in older or cardiometabolically at-risk adults.
