HGNS as Treatment for OSA in Neuromuscular Disorder Patients

The study evaluated hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) in five patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and neuromuscular disorders (NMD), including myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, and multiple sclerosis. Patients showed significant improvement in the apnea-hypopnea index (34.9 to 8.5, p=0.03) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale scores (13.1 to 8.5, p=0.03). The study suggests HGNS is effective and safe for OSA in this patient group, warranting further research.
