High BP Variability May Increase Lifetime Dementia Risk In Late Life But Not In Midlife

A study sheds light on the relationship between blood pressure variability (BPV) and dementia risk. Researchers found high BPV increased dementia risk in late life but not in middle life. The cohort study examined participants aged 65 or older, revealing that at age 90, BPV was associated with a 35% higher dementia risk. The relationship between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and dementia shifted with age. This study emphasizes the importance of age-specific factors in dementia prevention and treatment.
