High Prevalence of Chemotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis Among Adult Cancer Patients

A recent cross-sectional study investigated chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis in 268 adult cancer patients. Findings revealed a 42.9% prevalence, with grade 2 mucositis being the most common (44.3%). Independent risk factors included female gender, poor oral hygiene, and receipt of alkylating agent-containing chemotherapy. These outcomes emphasize the need for routine identification and assessment of high-risk cancer patients to ensure timely management of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis. The study contributes valuable insights aligning with previous research.
