Higher serum lipocalin 2 is associated with post-stroke depression at discharge

Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common complication after stroke, impacting patients' physical and mental well-being. This study investigated the association between serum Lipocalin 2 (LCN2) levels at admission and PSD at discharge in 358 acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. It was found that high LCN2 levels were independently linked to PSD occurrence, with the highest levels showing a 2.6 times higher risk. A cutoff value of 117.60ng/ml at admission predicted PSD with 77.2% sensitivity and 53.4% specificity. These findings highlight the potential of serum LCN2 as a predictive marker for PSD risk in AIS patients.
