HLA class II expression levels and alloimmune risk

The article discusses a study where researchers exposed human blood-derived endothelial colony-forming cells to IFNγ to assess HLA class II expression. They found that the expression levels varied between individuals but correlated with expression levels in other cell types from the same individual. HLA-DQ was the least frequently expressed HLA-II subclass and was associated with enhanced graft injury. In HLA-DR-matched patients, biopsy samples from recipients of kidney transplants with an HLA-DQ5 genotype had the highest histological microvascular inflammation score.
