Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may improve the heart's capacity to contract normally in patients with post-COVID syndrome, according to a small randomized trial presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress. The study evaluated 60 patients with ongoing symptoms for at least three months after mild to moderate symptomatic COVID-19. Patients were randomized to receive HBOT or a sham procedure, with each patient having five sessions per week over eight weeks. Echocardiography was used to assess the heart's ability to contract and relax lengthwise. The study suggests that HBOT could be beneficial in patients with long COVID, but more research is needed to determine its long-term effects and the optimal number of sessions.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
