A retrospective analysis of 244 patients with muscle disorders assessed presentation, management, and outcomes in the adult emergency department (ED) setting. The study used anonymized patient data spanning four years to extract demographic and clinical variables. Two groups were identified based on diagnosed (KD) or undiagnosed (UD) muscle disorders. Results revealed respiratory issues as the primary reason for ED visits in the KD group, while new diagnoses, particularly inflammatory myopathies, were found in the UD group. Mortality was higher in the KD group, linked to mitochondrial and inflammatory myopathies, with sepsis and dyspnea as contributing factors.
