Individuals who belong to multiple marginalized populations are subjected to intersecting forms of oppression and discrimination, resulting in negative impacts on all aspects of their lives, including health. To achieve health equity, intersectional discrimination-induced kidney harms must be studied, measured, and reduced. The kidney care community is grappling with the effects of systemic racism and race-based medical practices. There is a need for policies, clinical practices, and considerations that prevent harm to marginalized populations, such as LGBTQIA+ individuals, who may experience kidney health inequities. An intersectional approach can help kidney care professionals pursue equity in serving all communities.
