The SALT-HF trial evaluated hypertonic saline solution (HSS) combined with intravenous furosemide (ivFurosemide) in ambulatory heart failure patients. In a multicenter, double-blind study of 167 patients, there were no significant differences in 3-hour diuresis, natriuresis, or weight between treatments. While HSS showed a significant 7-day weight decrease, it did not improve overall congestion or clinical outcomes. The safety profile of ivFurosemide-HSS was appropriate.
