ICG Fluorescence Imaging and Anastomotic Leaks in Colorectal Surgery

In a study of 1136 patients, routine use of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging did not significantly reduce the overall rate of anastomotic leaks in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, excluding low anterior resections. The anastomotic leak rate was 5.8% in the ICG group compared to 7.9% in the control group. However, ICG fluorescence imaging showed potential benefit for left-sided operations. No adverse events related to ICG were reported.
