IL-4Rα Decreases Staphylococcus aureus Colonization and Increases Microbial Diversity in Atopic Dermatitis

Dupilumab, an interleukin-4 receptor α antibody, has shown efficacy in treating moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD). A study analyzed bacterial DNA from lesional and nonlesional skin of 54 AD patients treated with dupilumab or placebo. Results revealed that dupilumab treatment increased microbial diversity and decreased Staphylococcus aureus abundance. The reduction in S. aureus correlated with AD improvement and type 2 immunity biomarkers, highlighting the interplay between interleukin-4 receptor α inhibition, microbial diversity, and AD relief.
