Impact of choroid plexus size in prenatal diagnosis of normal and abnormal closure of the fourth ventricle

The study aimed to investigate the role of fetal 4th ventricle choroid plexus (4th V-CP) in cases of an open fourth ventricle with a normal cerebellar vermis. The control group consisted of pregnancies with normal sonographic examinations and outcomes, while the study group included cases with an isolated open 4th ventricle and normal vermis. The results showed that the 4th V-CP fills the space between the vermis and brainstem, increasing in size as gestation progresses. In the study group, the 4th V-CP was visualized separately from the vermis, indicating an isolated upward rotation of the cerebellar vermis. These findings highlight the importance of distinguishing between different causes of an open 4th ventricle during prenatal scans.
