This study investigated the effects of a 12-month lifestyle intervention after bariatric surgery on weight loss and health outcomes. It involved 153 participants randomly assigned to either an intervention or a control group. The intervention group received nutritional-behavioral tele-counseling sessions and supervised exercise for 12 weeks. The primary outcome, percentage weight loss at 6 months post-surgery, did not differ significantly between the intervention and control groups. However, the entire cohort experienced significant reductions in body weight, fat mass, improvements in physical function, quality of life, and depressive symptoms. The study concluded that the adjunctive lifestyle program had no additional benefits in terms of weight loss and health outcomes after bariatric surgery.
