Impact of obesity on chemotherapy dosing of carboplatin and survival of women with ovarian cancer

The study examined the impact of obesity on frontline carboplatin dosing and its association with survival among epithelial ovarian cancer patients. The researchers used data from a nationwide electronic health record-derived database and found that women with a BMI of 30 or more were more likely to be underdosed with frontline carboplatin. Underdosing in the neoadjuvant setting was associated with worse survival among women with serous tumors, while underdosing in the adjuvant setting was not associated with survival. The study suggests that actual weight-based dosing of carboplatin may be important to improve outcomes in EOC patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
