Impact of perioperative characteristics on the recurrence risk and survival of patients with uterine leiomyosarcoma

The study included 390 patients diagnosed between 2001 and 2007. Results showed 5-year and 10-year disease-free survivals of 46% and 55% respectively. Complete cytoreduction emerged as the main prognosis factor affecting DFS and overall survival, while adjuvant chemotherapy was associated with decreased rates. Adjuvant radiotherapy raised the risk of global recurrence. Tumor persistence after treatment significantly impacted recurrence and overall survival. Understanding these factors aids in developing effective management strategies.
