The study aimed to compare COVID-19 outcomes in patients with pre-existing type 2 diabetes (T2D) only, T2D with cardiovascular disease (CVD), or neither. The study used administrative claims, laboratory, and mortality data from the HealthCore Integrated Research Database (HIRD®). Adjusted analyses showed that COVID-19 patients with T2D+CVD had poorer outcomes than those with neither, with higher hospitalization, ICU admission, and mortality rates. COVID-19 patients with T2D only also had poorer outcomes than those with neither. The study suggests the need for optimal management approaches for patients with pre-existing T2D+CVD.
