Adjusted analyses showed that COVID-19 patients with T2D+CVD had poorer outcomes than those with neither, with higher hospitalization, ICU admission, and mortality rates. COVID-19 patients with T2D only also had poorer outcomes than those with neither. The study suggests the need for optimal management approaches for patients with pre-existing T2D+CVD.

The findings improve understanding of electrolyte abnormalities in PHAII and may guide future therapeutic strategies targeting renal potassium handling.

Researchers call for prospective studies using standardized imaging, endoscopy, and molecular analyses to clarify the prevalence and clinical significance of potential upper airway involvement in CPAM.
