Impact of Regional Metastases on Oral Cancer Survival Varies Across Age Groups

A retrospective study at a tertiary-care centre explored the significance of regional metastases in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients of different age brackets. The study analyzed data from 279 patients treated between 2000 and 2020 and found that younger patients (40 and below) faced significantly worse outcomes with regional disease, exhibiting higher odds ratios for overall and disease-specific mortality. The study underscores the need for tailored treatment strategies and vigilant post-treatment monitoring, particularly for younger OSCC patients with regional metastases.
