
Researchers have delved into post-stroke sleep problems, focusing on ischemic cerebrovascular stroke's impact on sleep architecture. Their study revealed significant differences between stroke patients and the control group. Ischemic stroke patients experienced reduced total sleep time and efficiency, alongside elevated arousal, limb movement, and snoring indices. Brain stem strokes exhibited high REM and REM latency, while cortical strokes showed severe apnea/hypopnea. Sizeable strokes correlated with increased limb movement, desaturation, and reduced oxygen levels during sleep. The study highlights varied sleep disruptions based on stroke site, size, and severity, shedding light on post-stroke sleep challenges.
