Recently, countries with higher prevalence of depressive or anxiety disorders had the highest age-standardized incidence rates for type 2 diabetes, ranging from 466.35 to 517.08 per 100,000 population. The fastest increase in incidence from 1990 to 2021 occurred in high SDI countries (AAPC 2.51%–2.61%). Conversely, countries with lower SDI and higher mental health burdens had the highest DALYs (1714.38 to 2012.12 per 100,000) and mortality rates (48.66 to 51.91 per 100,000), emphasizing the need for addressing mental health and socioeconomic development together.
