Impact of timing and combination of different BNT162b2 and ChAdOx1-S COVID-19 basic and booster vaccinations on humoral immunogenicity and reactogenicity in adults

In this observational study with 1,206 participants, the researchers examined the levels of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and adverse drug reactions (ADR) following different COVID-19 vaccination protocols. The participants received either the BNT162b2 or ChAdOx1-S vaccine, either alone or in combination, with varying intervals between doses. All participants received a BNT162b2 booster. The study found that the heterologous BNT162b2-ChAdOx1-S schedule produced the highest levels of antibodies, although it did not reach statistical significance compared to the homologous BNT162b2 groups. The study also showed that a longer interval between doses with BNT162b2 resulted in higher antibody levels. Overall, the study suggests that a heterologous vaccination schedule or extended vaccination interval can induce strong immune response.
