Impact of Weight Loss on Gout Risk with Anti-Obesity Medications

The study examined the relationship between weight loss and gout risk among 131,000 overweight or obese individuals treated with orlistat. After 5 years, fast weight loss (≥10%) was associated with a 27% lower risk of incident gout (HR 0.73, 95% CI 0.62–0.86) compared to weight gain or stability. Similar reductions in recurrent gout flares were observed. Weight loss within the first year significantly reduces gout risk and flare rates.
