The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the reverse septal flap (RSF) in reducing postoperative nasal deformities and olfactory complications associated with the posteriorly-based nasoseptal flap (NSF) for skull base reconstruction. The study involved adult patients undergoing endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) surgery, and data from two separate cohorts, one retrospective and one prospective, were collected. The study found that the use of an RSF significantly decreased the proportion of patients who reported nasal deformities and did not show a significant difference in patient-reported sinonasal outcomes. The authors suggest that RSF should be considered whenever an NSF is used for reconstruction.
