Improving Quality of Life Through Early Swallowing Intervention After Oral Cancer Surgery

This study aimed to evaluate evidence for timing, methods, and effects of early intervention in patients after free flap reconstruction. A comprehensive search was conducted in nine databases, and eight studies were included. The intervention mainly started within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery with multiple swallowing training measures. The meta-analysis results showed that early swallowing intervention could improve swallowing function and short-term quality of life. However, rigorous trials are needed in the future to draw more definitive conclusions.
