
A study explored the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and gene expression patterns in patients with rotator cuff tears. The study found that vitamin D deficiency was associated with lower vitamin D receptor gene expression and higher inflammation-related gene expression in the deltoid muscle. However, no significant differences were observed in gene expression related to muscle growth or atrophy in the supraspinatus muscle. These findings highlight the potential impact of vitamin D deficiency on proinflammatory cytokine levels in rotator cuff muscles.
