The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of inhaled ciclesonide in reducing the duration of oxygen therapy among hospitalized adults with COVID-19. The trial was conducted in nine hospitals in Sweden from June 2020 to May 2021, involving 98 participants who received either ciclesonide or standard care. The primary outcome was the duration of oxygen therapy, while the key secondary outcome was a composite of invasive mechanical ventilation/death. The trial ruled out a treatment effect of ciclesonide corresponding to more than a one-day reduction in oxygen therapy duration. Therefore, Ciclesonide is unlikely to improve this outcome meaningfully.
