
The alveolar macrophage is a critical innate immune cell, and its dysfunction plays a significant role in respiratory diseases like COPD. This study explored the mechanism underlying the innate immune reprogramming of macrophages in COPD. Using bone marrow-derived macrophages from an in vivo model of COPD, the researchers identified alternative splicing in genes, including the Notch 2 signaling pathway. Additionally, they found that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)-Cox2 regulates cytokine production by macrophages. This study highlights the complexity of macrophage biology and provides insights into the role of lncRNAs in regulating cytokine production in COPD.
