Innovative Hydrogel Treatment for Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a major complication in diabetic patients, necessitating advanced treatment strategies that inhibit bacterial growth, promote angiogenesis, and reduce oxidative stress. In response, a smart thermosensitive hydrogel, CIZ@G, was developed, incorporating self-assembled nanoparticles (CIZ) consisting of chlorogenic acid (CA), indocyanine green (ICG), and zinc ions (Zn2+). Loaded into a chitosan-β-glycerophosphate matrix, the hydrogel enables rapid gelation under photothermal effects. CIZ@G demonstrates biocompatibility, drug release, antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, and enhances angiogenesis by upregulating VEGF and CD31. In vitro and in vivo studies confirm its efficacy in inhibiting bacterial growth and promoting wound healing, offering a promising treatment for DFU management.
