The study aimed to determine the prevalence of deep and ovarian endometriosis in premenopausal women attending a general gynecology clinic using transvaginal ultrasound. A total of 1026 women were included in the study, of which 194 women (18.9%) had sonographic evidence of endometriosis. The study found significant positive associations between endometriosis and adenomyosis and pelvic adhesions, while higher parity and a history of previous Cesarean sections were associated with a lower occurrence of endometriosis. The anatomical distribution of endometriotic lesions was also investigated, and there was good agreement between ultrasound and surgical findings. The study suggests that deep and/or ovarian endometriosis is common in women attending general gynecology clinics.
