Frequent hypoglycemia disrupts autonomic responses, causing impaired awareness and a higher risk of severe hypoglycemia, impacting driving eligibility. The UK DVLA forbids driving with complete hypoglycemia unawareness or frequent severe hypoglycemic events. The FreeStyle Libre (FSL) and ABCD Nationwide Audit, involving 6304 individuals with type 1 diabetes from 102 UK clinics, found 1606 with paired data. After 6.9 months, the Gold score improved, and severe hypoglycemic episodes reduced significantly (12.1% to 2.7%). This suggests that intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring can enhance hypoglycemia awareness and lessen severe incidents for type 1 diabetes drivers.
