Investigating Associations of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Lung Function Decline, and Airway Obstruction

A recent study delved into the impact of omega-3 fatty acids on lung health, revealing their potential to mitigate lung function decline and lower the risk of airway obstruction. The study, conducted on a diverse sample of 15,063 participants, demonstrated that higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, specifically docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), were linked to slowed lung function decline. These positive effects persisted across various demographics, including different ethnicities and smoking histories. Additionally, the study's Mendelian randomization segment showcased similar trends, underscoring the potential benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, in maintaining optimal lung health.
