
Thyroid cancer is more aggressive in males, but the reasons for this difference are unclear. A retrospective study analyzed thyroid nodules from 738 patients, with 77.4% being females. The study compared clinical characteristics and molecular profiles of tumors between female and male patients. The findings revealed that extrathyroidal extension was more common in male malignancies. The rate of molecular mutations was similar between the sexes. However, male patients with BRAFV600E and TERT mutations presented at a younger age compared to females. These factors could contribute to the more aggressive nature of thyroid cancer in males.
