Sleep irregularity may quietly fuel weight gain. In this UK Biobank study of 10,572 adults (mean age 63), those with highly irregular sleep (>60 min variation) had a greater BMI increase (0.24 kg/m²) and an 80% higher risk of developing obesity over ~3 years. These findings held across lifestyle, genetic, and demographic factors, suggesting sleep consistency could be a key target for obesity prevention strategies.
