UROLOGY

This study compared the effectiveness of low-dose tadalafil (5 mg) with tamsulosin (0.4 mg) in aiding the expulsion of kidney stones in patients undergoing extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. The study involved 250 patients with solitary upper urinary tract stones measuring 6-24 mm. The primary outcome, the calculus expulsion rate at 30 days, showed no significant difference between tamsulosin and tadalafil groups (81.1% vs. 80.3%). There was also no notable distinction in the secondary outcome, the number of days to expulsion. However, four patients discontinued tadalafil due to adverse drug reactions, indicating lower tolerance. In conclusion, low-dose tadalafil did not outperform tamsulosin in promoting stone expulsion and exhibited lower tolerability in this study.

A 10-year retrospective study of 238 men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer found that lower pretreatment tumor ADC on multiparametric MRI was associated with worse long-term outcomes. Patients with ADC ≤0.668 × 10⁻³ mm²/s had nearly four times higher risk of distant metastasis, suggesting ADC may provide additional prognostic information beyond standard clinical risk classification.

An analysis of 854 women from the European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Dementia cohort found that higher serum estradiol was associated with lower baseline tau levels in cerebrospinal fluid, particularly among APOE ε4 carriers. Estradiol was not associated with amyloid-beta 42, while estrone showed a modest association with slower pTau181 increases in exploratory longitudinal analyses.

Early-onset disease, smoking, inflammatory bowel disease and pilonidal sinus were among the most consistent risk factors.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

GYNAECOLOGY - IVF

The clinical–radiomics model achieved an optimism-corrected ROC-AUC of 0.80, compared with 0.78 for ultrasound alone.
