Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed no new Nipah virus cases in the state as 61 'high-risk' contacts, including healthcare workers, tested negative. The Nipah strain identified in Kerala matches the Indian Genotype (I Genotype) found in Bangladesh. Six Nipah cases have been reported, with two fatalities and four under treatment. ICMR and WHO studies indicate the likelihood of Nipah occurrence in Kerala and eight other states, linking the source of infection to bats. Surveillance efforts continue, with the central team testing bat saliva samples. Core committees are effectively managing containment zones.
