The KETAMORPH study demonstrates the noninferiority of intravenous ketamine to morphine in alleviating out-of-hospital traumatic pain, challenging prevailing opioid prescriptions for such cases. Despite established limits, overprescribing persists, necessitating alternatives. Involving 251 participants, the trial reveals comparable pain reduction between ketamine and morphine groups, with ketamine exhibiting fewer adverse effects. No clinically significant vital sign differences were observed. This study positions ketamine as a safe and effective stand-alone alternative to opioids for adults with out-of-hospital traumatic pain, addressing crucial concerns in the prevailing opioid crisis.
