Kidney Function Decline and Adverse Events in Heart Failure Patients

Kidney decline accelerates in heart failure patients, especially with low eGFR. This study found that 37% of patients had eGFR ≥60 ml/min/1.73 m², 46% had eGFR 30–59 ml/min/1.73 m², and 17% had eGFR <30 ml/min/1.73 m² 1 year before death. Acute kidney injury (AKI) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) were more common in patients with lower eGFR. Kidney function deteriorated significantly in the final months of life.
