Left ventricular volume and maximal functional capacity in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

This study investigated the relationship between indexed left ventricular end-diastolic volume (iLVEDV) and peak oxygen consumption (peakVO2) in stable outpatients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Data from 133 patients showed that a smaller iLVEDV was associated with reduced peakVO2, indicating lower functional capacity. These findings were validated in an additional cohort, supporting the association. The results suggest that iLVEDV could be a marker for functional capacity in HFpEF, warranting further research into underlying mechanisms and potential treatments.
